Recognised in the Renewable Energy Project of the Year category, the company was ‘Highly Commended’ for its pioneering Medebridge Solar Farm in Essex.
The UK Green Business Awards celebrate the most inspiring, impactful, and innovative organisations driving the UK’s green economy forward. In 2024, Enviromena received the same award in the Fast Track Company of the Year category.
“This award is a major acknowledgment of what Medebridge represents,” said Chris Marsh, CEO of Enviromena.
“The project not only provides clean, affordable, home-grown energy at scale, but also breaks new ground through our Corporate PPA with the University of Manchester and our strong focus on enhancing local biodiversity. We’re extremely proud to see it recognised as one of the UK’s most impactful initiatives.”
The 71MWp Medebridge Solar Farm is currently in the final stages of commissioning near South Ockendon, Essex. Once fully operational, it will produce around 72,500 MWh of clean electricity each year, enough to power 21,000 homes, and will offset more than 14,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
Medebridge is backed by a milestone 10-year Corporate PPA with the University of Manchester, through which 80% of the site’s annual output will be delivered directly to the University. The agreement is expected to cover around 65% of the University’s electricity needs and cut its carbon emissions by an estimated 12,000 tonnes each year.
Beyond energy generation, the project will deliver a significant biodiversity net gain with enhancements to hedgerows, wildflower meadow planting, and improved habitat connectivity to support local wildlife.
The UK Green Business Awards brought together over 600 business leaders, policymakers, investors, and innovators at The Brewery in London, shining a spotlight on the organisations shaping a greener future.
