Enviromena partners with national heart charity to support communities across the country

Clean energy solutions company Enviromena has partnered with the national heart charity Red Sky Foundation, which raises vital funds for babies, children, and adults who are in need of cardiac care, to support the charity’s work with patients and their families in local communities.

Red Sky’s founder, Sergio Petrucci MBE, started the cardiac foundation in the Northeast in 2013 when his daughter was born with two holes in her tiny heart. Following lifesaving surgery, Sergio and his wife Emma wanted to raise funds for the NHS to thank the nurses who looked after her, so they could support other children and their families living with complex heart conditions.

To date, the charity has raised more than one million pounds to buy a variety of equipment and provide facilities and aftercare at the Children’s Heart Unit at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital, Sunderland Royal Hospital, and the James Cook Hospital in Teesside.

Whether it’s funding state-of-the-art equipment for the NHS or installing defibrillators and providing CPR community education sessions to help save lives when time is of the essence, Red Sky Foundation is making a positive impact in the Northeast as well as the wider UK.

Enviromena’s Chief Commercial Officer, Lee Adams, met Sergio at the Great North Run in 2022 and has since taken part in a number of challenges to raise money for the charity. Lee has already committed to take part in the Great North Run 2024, the world’s largest half marathon as well as a host of other local events. He said: “I am such an admirer of Sergio and the work he is undertaking, and I’m delighted to say that Enviromena has picked up the baton and will be providing defibrillators to local communities across the UK. Heart problems touch all our friends and families, and as a company, we are committed to leaving lasting legacies wherever our solar projects support the UK Governments Net Zero Targets.”

Enviromena was also pleased to donate two tickets for the Red Sky Ball to Lindsay Male from South Tyneside, an NHS Cardiac Physiologist who not only helps to detect heart defects as part of her day job but who also actively raises money for the Red Sky Foundation in her spare time to help install public access defibrillators in local communities.

The charity’s Red Sky Ball is the jewel in the crown in the annual fundraising calendar and raises tens of thousands of pounds each year. It took a two-year hiatus during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the day of the 2020 ball due to take place on the same day the first lockdown began. With the £30,000 already made from ticket sales, Sergio used the money to provide the NHS Covid wards with enough lifesaving defibrillators to help any patients who went into cardiac arrest while battling the coronavirus. The Red Sky Ball came back with a bang in 2023, raising more than £100,000, and this year’s event promises to be even bigger with a variety of performances from West End.

Sergio commented: “We’re absolutely thrilled to partner with Enviromena which will see us work closely together prioritising safer communities within their network of operations. Red Sky Foundation has a mission to help create a lasting plan to help save lives and the news about us working together, we’re excited to help create positivity while helping to keep hearts beating stronger for now and for future generations.”
